Young women all over the country are becoming more interested in science, technology, engineering, and math, or STEM as it is so often called. The Expanding Your Horizons is a one day conference at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College that was created for young girls in middle school (grades 6-8) who have an interest in these areas.

Margaret Lowman, Ph.D. will be the keynote speaker and workshop presenter at this event. She is a professor at North Carolina State University, and the Director of the Museum of Natural sciences.  Lowman will not be the only presenter, as other prominent women in the STEM fields will be presenting different workshops and sharing their passions as well.

This is a hands-on science and mathematics conference with several workshops including, ‘Treasures from the Rain Forest Canopy’, ‘Learning is Sweet’, ‘Healthy Horse’, and many more. It will be held on Saturday, Nov. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Registration can be found on the Saint-Mary-of-the-Woods College website at http://www.smwc.edu/headlines/explore-science-technology-engineering-and-math/.
