About 60 Terre Haute area kids and their parents attended an annual Halloween Party on Oct. 30 hosted by a student group at Saint Mary-of-the-Woods College.
The event in the Le Fer Hall ballroom, put on by the Sophomore-Freshman Leadership Council, featured activities of corn-hole games, a cake-walk, face painting, coloring Halloween themed pictures, and trick-or-treating in the student dormitory, Le Fer Hall. The kids participating ranged in ages from 6 months to 12 years old.
Amanda Payton, SFLC president, said, “I think the younger kids enjoyed the games and coloring mostly, many were afraid of certain costumes the students had worn during the trick-or-treating.”
Prizes were set up for the winners of each round of the cake-walk; small, Halloween themed flashlights, spider rings, candy bags, and pumpkin stickers were the grand prizes to choose from.
Payton said that the SFLC event was expecting 60 people. Group members did a great job with upholding their goal of reaching out to that many people, she said.
One challenging issue that the leadership organization had faced was not promoting the event sooner. Asked what they could change for next year or what would be different, Payton, said, “I think SFLC may promote the event sooner and possibly bring in more families.”
